About The Role

As our Financial Accountant, you will play a key role in supporting Council’s financial sustainability and operational performance. Working closely with the Coordinator Financial Services, you will contribute to the full range of accounting functions, including budget development and review, monthly reporting and variance analysis, financial forecasting, and the preparation of annual financial statements in line with legislative and audit requirements.

You will act as a trusted business partner to allocated directorates, providing clear, timely financial advice and insights to support informed decision-making.

As a leader within the team, you will supervise and develop staff across accounts payable, procurement and finance, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement. This role works closely with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, including Council staff, auditors, government agencies and financial institutions, requiring strong communication skills and a proactive, solutions-focused approach to achieving organisational objectives.

About You

We’re looking for an experienced Accountant with strong financial analysis and reporting skills, who also enjoys leading and developing a team. In this role, you’ll support and guide staff, build positive working relationships across the organisation, and contribute to a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. Experience in Local Government will be highly regarded, and CPA or CA membership is desirable. Tertiary qualifications in accounting or a related field are essential.
