The Role

Our Traffic and Design team is undergoing exciting changes to better meet the evolving needs of our community. We’re seeking a Senior Design Engineer to play a critical role in leading the design of civil infrastructure projects as part of Council’s Capital Improvement Program.

In this role, you’ll be responsible for delivering in-house civil designs, managing external consultants, and providing technical leadership across road, drainage, traffic, and township improvement projects.

To succeed, you’ll bring strong CAD capabilitiesproject management expertise, and a keen eye for ensuring designs meet quality, safety, and sustainability standards. You’ll also be a collaborative team player who thrives on mentoring junior staff, promoting innovation, and delivering best-value outcomes through technical excellence and cross-team collaboration.

About You

 

As our Senior Design Engineer, you’ll lead the design of critical roads, drainage, and traffic projects. Your technical expertise and leadership will help deliver innovative, sustainable solutions that improve wellbeing and reshape how people move, connect, and experience life in our region.

Desired Skills and Experience

To be successful in this role, you’ll need a tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering or Engineering Technology (Civil) with an advanced diploma, recognised by Engineers Australia. Postgraduate qualifications in Engineering, Engineering Management, or Project Management will be highly regarded. You’ll bring proven experience in CAD and civil design across roads, drainage, and traffic, along with strong project and consultant management skills. The ability to manage competing deadlines, monitor budgets, and navigate complex stakeholder environments is key. Excellent communication, customer service, and negotiation skills will help you deliver high-quality, cost-effective infrastructure outcomes that meet Council and community expectations.
