Job Description

About Council

Moorabool Shire Council is a progressive organisation that is experiencing rapid growth and surging development. We offer a perfect blend of picturesque and friendly surrounds where you can enjoy an urban lifestyle in towns like Bacchus Marsh or take advantage of Moorabool’s smaller towns and hamlets, rural open spaces and natural surrounds.

Our focus is on building a healthy, inclusive and connected community; a liveable and thriving environment and an organisation that listens and adapts to the need of our evolving communities.

The Role

As our library services expand in anticipation of our brand new facilities in Ballan, we are looking for Library Officers. Are you someone who thrives on helping others, loves being surrounded by books, and enjoys creating welcoming community spaces? Look no further!

In this hands-on, community-facing position, you’ll be at the heart of our library service—delivering warm, knowledgeable support to patrons of all ages. You’ll help people discover resources, assist in collection maintenance, support engaging programs and events, and ensure our library spaces are welcoming and well-presented. Whether guiding someone through a tech query or collaborating with a supportive team, you’ll play a key role in fostering inclusion, creativity, and lifelong learning.

We have multiple part-time positions available where you may be rostered to work across any one of Council's Libraries with hours ranging from Monday to Saturday. Additional hours may be offered from time to time.

  • Access to 3 health and wellbeing days over the life of our Health and Wellbeing Strategy
  • Eligibility for parental leave after six months service
  • Payment of increments whilst on parental leave
  • Six months of super paid on unpaid parental leave
  • Flexibility Spread of Hours Clause
  • Updates to our Discretionary Leave Clause to include gender affirmation related activities, natural disaster and foster caring.

Send us an email at workplacerelations@moorabool.vic.gov.au and we can chat about all the benefits of working at Moorabool. We’d love to chat with you about our culture, development frameworks, progression opportunities, cultural initiatives, reward frameworks and flexibility opportunities.

About You

This role requires an understanding of the role of public libraries, with experience in developing and delivering high standard customer service in a timely manner.

You’ll bring a passion for libraries and a strong background in customer service, paired with excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset. Confident with technology and quick to solve minor IT issues, you’re also flexible with your availability—including weekends and short-notice shifts. A current Victorian Driver’s Licence and Working With Children Check are essential.
